UK support team will talk you through everything you need to know.

  • How does Polaris Backup work?

The Polaris backup software initially takes a full backup of all of your data. For all backups after that it will compare the data and only backup the changes made since the last backup, this allows backups to complete quicker and also allows you to keep multiple generations of files.

  • Do I need to keep an onsite backup?

Although not necessary, we advise keeping an onsite backup to compliment the cloud backup. In the event of a disaster we can use the onsite backup to recover the majority of data and then ‘fill in the gaps’ with the last good cloud backup. This allows for speedier recovery of your data up to the latest backup.

  • How secure is Polaris Backup?

All the data is encrypted using AES 256 bit encryption before being uploaded to the data centre. AES 256 bit encryption is the current de-facto standard used for securing sensitive government documents and for all online retailers. It is approved by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and National Security Agency (NSA) for storing Top Secret data.

  • Is it easy to use?

Absolutely. After installation, setup is as easy as entering your username and password. We’ve cut out all of the technical jargon that often accompanies other backup software and opted for a much more user-friendly interface. With large buttons and clear instructions, backing up with Polaris couldn't be easier.

  • Does it cost anything to recover my data?

No. There is no charge for restoring data from the data centre via your broadband connection.

  • What happens if I exceed my storage limit?

If you exceed your storage limit, you'll automatically be upgraded to the next tier of storage space. However, we will notify you once you are within 10% of your storage limit so that you have plenty of time to make adjustements.

  • Will the backups have any impact on my internet connection speed?

We are able to throttle the upload and download speed so that it doesn’t significantly impact on your Internet connection.

  • Can you back up my Microsoft Exchange and SQL Databases?

Yes - Polaris Backup utilises Volume Shadow Copy to perform Delta Block-Level backups. This means that it will only backup the changes to the database since the last backup. This allows backups to be dramatically reduced in size.

  • How often can I back up my data?

You can choose to backup as often as you like, depending on how often your data changes and the speed of your Internet connection.

  • How long does it take to recover my data?

For larger amounts of data (over 100GB) we can offer a shipping service to courier data straight from the data centre direct to your door. This is one less thing for you to worry about in the event of a business disaster such as a fire or server theft.

  • Can you keep multiple copies of the same files?

Polaris Backup will keep every version of file backup changes for as long as the file is stored, meaning that you can go back to any given day and restore any version of your backed up files.

  • What are the minimum requirements for the Polaris Backup software?

    Desktop - Windows Vista / 7 / 8
    Server – Windows Server 2008 / 2012, Windows Small Business Server 2008 / 2011
ADSL Internet connection (For larger backups a Fibre connection is recommended)

  • How do I know my backup is working?

You will receive a daily email report confirming that the backup has been successful.
